Delia Smith on How to Cheat at Cooking

Now she is coming back, with a new book, Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking, and a new television series.

Once, it seemed Britain couldn't live without Delia. But where will she fit in now, in the mad celebrity circus that is TV cooking, with Jamie getting pukka in the garden, Nigella licking chocolate lasciviously off her fingers, Gordon haranguing anyone in earshot with streams of expletives? Has Delia been forgotten? Not in Norwich, she hasn't. Delia had first-name recognition before any of them, and the cosy familiarity it implies has evidently stuck. 'Hello, Delia…' Fans lean forward to shake her hand as she passes. 'Excuse me, Delia…' Small children proffer match-day programmes and brandish mobile-phone cameras.

It was her husband, Michael Wynn-Jones, a life-long Norwich fan, who brought Delia to Carrow Road for her first home game in 1969.

Hornets' derby debacle

WATFORD's crisis of results at Vicarage Road plunged to new depths this afternoon (Saturday) after they crashed to a 4-2 defeat against Queens Park Rangers.

The game was effectively over by half-time after the counter-attacking visitors had capitalised on some alarming defensive failings in the Hornets rearguard to race into a 3-0 lead courtesy of two Martin Rowlands goals, including a penalty, and a Damion Stewart header.

A Damien Francis header at the start of the second-half, which had suspicions of an own goal about it, gave the Hornets hope, but Akos Buzsaky ensured it would be seven games without a win at Vicarage Road for the home side before Dan Shittu netted a late consolation.

The Shift Away From Print

No longer is widespread migration away from print restricted to early adopters like Drexel and Suffolk Universities; it has become the norm at a broad range of academic institutions, from liberal arts colleges to the largest research universities. Ongoing budget shortfalls in academe have probably been the underlying motivation. The strategic pricing models offered by some of the largest publishers, which offer a price reduction for the cancellation of print, have provided a financial incentive for libraries to contemplate completing the transition.

Faced with resource constraints, librarians have been required to make hard choices, electing not to purchase the print version but only to license electronic access to many journals — a step more easily made in light of growing faculty acceptance of the electronic format.

First Edition Cycling News

I guess as people who follow cycling we are a bit tired of hearing a ball by ball description of a second rate cricket match when at the same time there are some great cycling events," he continued. "You can't change the world in one go but Scotty was really frustrated at times at the lack of recognition the sport received."

The event's success follows on from the successful running of a fundraising dinner for the Scott Peoples Foundation last month, which was attended by Tour de France runner-up Cadel Evans (Predictor-Lotto). Evans joined fellow Australian Tour riders Simon Gerrans and Brett Lancaster in donating jerseys for auctioning off on the night.

"One of the things that helped make our race a success was the support from Cadel Evans," said Furphy. "We raised $20,000 that night and much of it was due to his generosity with his time - awesome bloke."

The team behind Scotty's Race is now hoping to continue the momentum it's gathered to make the event an annual race.

Ground shrimp chips the secret to crispy fried chicken

Just trust me and try this one.

If you like fried chicken with a perfectly extra-crunchy, savory breading that's not too thick, too thin or too greasy, and cooks in a flash, go to an Asian market and buy "prawn-flavored chips."

Sometimes called "shrimp chips," these snacks usually are sold in boxes (under a variety of brands) and prior to cooking resemble brightly colored hunks of plastic.

The traditional way of preparing shrimp chips is to submerge them in very hot oil until they puff up and expand, turning into an oddly colored but delicious cross between a potato chip and a cheese puff.

On a whim, I tossed a bunch of the uncooked chips in a blender and pulverized them. I then dredged thin chicken breast halves through the ground chips and pan-fried them in a bit of canola oil.

Candidates make final push before 'Super Tuesday'

More political topics occur, he should position in social issues. America still has a high number of low-income citizens and especially their children who have no health-insurance. Another point about this would be the reformation of FEMA to avoid disasters like the one after hurricane Katrina.

A third field, environmental politics. The Bush government finally confessed that constant ignorance of IPCC report and others about human induced climate change is not productive. A presidential candidate should also have a reasonable position on that and explain how America, the currently leading economy wants to face this problem.

It would also be interesting if the IHT could dig out some predictions in these issues from the staff McCain hired so far for his candidacy run.

Chuck Blount: Lack of casino poker can leave players foggy

Slot machines are the most popular form of gambling, but provide some of the worst odds in a casino. They are programmed to pay out less than the money that's put into them, so it's a game that is impossible to beat over the long-term.

The roulette wheel is beloved for its simplicity, but again, the odds will leave the gambler fighting and uphill battle.

The alleged 50/50 bets — in which players can bet on the color (black or red) or the number (odd or even) — aren't true coin flip bets due to the presence of the two green "zero" numbers. Betting on specific board numbers or combinations of numbers can get borderline suicidal.

That game being played with the dice? It's called craps for a reason. There's no shortage of poker stories in which players score big at the poker table only to lose the winnings later in the pit.
