| Senate suspends hearing after seven hours with Lozada
The Senate on Friday afternoon suspended the inquiry into the botched $329-million national broadband network (NBN) deal after grilling Rodolfo Noel "Jun" Lozada Jr. for at least seven hours. The hearing that started around 10:30 a.m. was suspended at 5:55 p.m. The NBN deal hearings resumes on Monday morning with Lozada still the main resource person. The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee had said it will send summons to officials of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the mysterious policeman, Senior Police Officer 4 Roger Valeroso, who allegedly took Lozada from the airport. Officials of the Department of Transportation and Telecommunications, and the Philippine National Police were also expected to be summoned to attend the hearing's resumption.
Salmon Stuffed with Crab, Shrimp and Brie
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Rinse and pat the salmon dry. Cut a slit vertically down the center of the fillet, just to the skin. Do not cut through the skin. In a small bowl, mix together the crab meat, shrimp, brie, mayonnaise, dill, salt and black pepper. Generously stuff the crab filling into the slit of the salmon and pack it tight, mounding it on top. Place the stuffed salmon in a pie plate or other sided baking dish. Add enough of the wine so it comes three-fourths of the way up the fillet. Place the fish in the oven and bake, uncovered, about 15 minutes or until the salmon is cooked through and tender. Most of the wine should absorb into the fish, but there should be some pan juices remaining. Transfer to heated plates and serve.
City staff suggests denying or tabling Wal-Mart
City staff members say they don't know enough to recommend approval for a Southside Wal-Mart and suggest that the planning commission today either deny or table its recommendation on the retailer's zoning request. The location of the Supercenter has been opposed by neighbors who worry about increasing traffic and decreasing property values in the area now zoned for residential housing. The planning commission recommended with a 5-3 vote a previous rezoning request in March, but the issue never reached the City Council because Wal-Mart withdrew its request. Members of the commission contacted Tuesday said they were waiting for tonight's presentation to decide their votes. Two did mention concerns about a traffic study, one saying more data is needed from Wal-Mart, the other saying the city should prepare that information.
Make an easy cherry tart for your sweetheart
Just calling something easy doesn't make it so. But we're telling the truth about today's recipe. Granted, there's a crust involved, but you don't have to make it. Easy means a refrigerated pie crust that you simply unroll. And since our tart is inspired by a European crostata with its signature free-form crust, it's not supposed to look perfect. .
